STUDIO 44 HAIR DESIGN
Cynthia C. Reedy

Cynthia Reedy has been a hair stylist since her early 20’s. A common theme through her life is that she loves various forms of art and creativity (ceramics, fusing glass and music), hair being one of them - designing hair is like doing sculpture. She also likes meaningful exchange of human connections. All about empowerment.
While in California, Cynthia studied at a progressive Cosmetology School in San Diego - Je Boutique, which she thoroughly enjoyed due it's advanced and diverse creative education. The and curriculum was challenging and thorough and even included mindfulness training.
Cynthia chose cosmetology initially because it had a strong creative element to it and there were many opportunities in the field to explore. Prior to being a hair artist she worked in administration with the City Attorney's Office in San Diego - finding it interesting however, it lacked the creativity and freedom she desired. Planning to work on her bachelor’s degree, she wanted another skill under her belt to support her through school and chose Cosmetology. During her training Cynthia found the many aspects of cosmetology such as the chemistry, physics, anatomy, psychology, art, communications quite fascinating, challenging, diverse and fun...and the rest is history. During her training at Je Boutique. she participated in many hair shows and competitions along the coast (winning 1st place in a few). To this day, continuing education is a lot of fun and inspiring. I love to learn ! She also completed her Bachelors in Communications and Fine Arts which was a great experience as well.
She is a Detroiter at heart and returned to Ann Arbor over 20 years ago from the West. After working in various salons as an independent contractor and managing Identity Salon and Spa for many years, she decided it was in the cards to create her own salon. In February of 2011 she opened Studio 44 Hair Design in Ann Arbor.
Cynthia enjoys her self actualized style of relating and business to serve her clients. She purposely selected a peaceful location on the seventh floor of a majestic, art deco-style building. The studio has huge windows facing south over the city and marvels every day at the rising and setting sun and the constantly changing spiritual light that inspires her and brings delight to her day. She is pleased too with the incredible feedback and appreciation she receives from her clients in how they also enjoy the studio. "I love the fact that people love being in the studio space and appreciate it's wonderful serene feel."
Working close to the University of Michigan has certainly exposed me to every sort of profession, personality, and nationality. "How meaningful it is to serve such kind, brilliant and interesting people from all walks of life and locations around the world. It has brought a wonderful bouquet of philosophers, writers, scientists, artists, and so on. What a personal inspiration and education it has been to me."
In April 2011, Cynthia was featured in the Crazy Wisdom Journal (front page feature); and was chosen as one of
the 4 Hair Healers of Ann Arbor. In writing a short bio for CW she stated: "Life is good and I feel honored by the people I’ve met along the way — their grace, wisdom, kindness add richness to my life. I feel incredibly lucky to work and serve the Ann Arbor population."
